Test Procedure
This section describes a typical ABS test in a step by step tutorial. To start at the beginning please select step1, this will guide you through each procedure to the end of the test. If you wish to jump to a particular procedure please select the according step below.
- Spacer number 1 in position on the main shaft
- Test ring adaptor in place on main shaft
- Test ring in place on adaptor
- Insert and tighten test ring retaining screw
- Tighten test ring retaining screw using tightening tool and torque driver
- Add test fuel
- Raise fuel bath platform
- Fuel bath cover in place
- Insert temperature probe
- Test ball mounted in ball holder
- Attach ball holder
- Load weight attached, instrument ready to start test
1. Spacer number 1 in position on the main shaft
Cleanliness
The operator should wear disposable gloves when handling all items of test hardware that come into contact with the test fuel. Preferably handle the test specimens themselves using cleaned forceps.
Test ring
The axial location of the test ring is set by a spacer. Only one spacer should be positioned on the main shaft at any time. When starting with a new test ring this will be spacer number 1. Each subsequent test uses the next spacer in sequence until all 10 have been used.
It is convenient to place all the spacers in numerical order, 10 at the bottom, 1 at the top, on the left hand post before starting with a new test ring. Each spacer can then be pulled off in order and located on the main shaft. At the end of the test the spacer can be removed from the shaft and placed on the right hand storage post. When all 10 tests have been completed on the test ring all the spacers can be removed from the right hand storage post and placed in numerical order on the left hand storage post ready for the next test ring. For the first test with a new test ring, place spacer number 1 on the main shaft.

2. Test ring adaptor in place on main shaft
Slide the test ring adaptor in place on the main shaft. The pin on the inside of the test ring adaptor locates in the slot in the main shaft to prevent the adaptor from turning. The two pins on the adaptor face outward from the instrument.

3. Test ring in place on adaptor
Place the test ring onto the adaptor. The recess with the two holes faces towards the instrument. Rotate the test ring until the two pins on the adaptor locate in the two holes in the test ring.

4. Insert and tighten test ring retaining screw
Place the test ring clamp washer in place on the end of the main shaft and insert the test ring retaining screw.

5. Tighten test ring retaining screw using tightening tool and torque driver
Using the tightening tool, restrain the test ring and tighten the retaining screw using the torque driver.

6. Add test fuel
Place the cleaned fuel bath in position on the fuel bath platform (in the lowered position) making sure that it is located correctly in the recess in the platform. The hole in the side of the fuel bath for the temperature probe must be on the left side of the fuel bath when viewed from the front. Add 50ml of test fuel to the fuel bath.

7. Raise fuel bath platform
Rotate the fuel bath platform lift knob 180° to raise the fuel bath to the test position.

8. Fuel bath cover in place
Place the fuel bath cover on the fuel bath ensuring it is correctly seated on the bath. Attach the conditioned air pipes.

9. Insert temperature probe
Insert the temperature probe in the hole in the left hand side of the fuel bath. Make sure that the temperature probe is pushed fully into the hole.

10. Test ball mounted in ball holder
Using forceps or gloves, place the test ball in the cup of the ball holder. Fit the securing collar and hand tighten. Place the square end of the ball holder in the round hole in the tightening tool and tighten the securing collar hand tight only.

11. Attach ball holder
Locate the test ball holder in the hole in the load arm and secure with the securing screw. Hand tighten the securing screw.

12. Load weight attached, instrument ready to start test
Lower the load arm so that the ball holder enters the hole in the top of the fuel bath cover. Attach the load weight to the end of the load arm.

This completes the assembly of the instrument and it is now ready to begin the test.
