Recommended calibration schedule
Different elements of the system require calibration at different intervals. The following calibration schedule has been found to give good repeatability:
Interval
Weekly
Monthly
Yearly
Element
Speeds
Load, traction, spectral response
RTDs, spectrometer
The instrument should be completely re-calibrated if it is dismantled or moved from one location to another. It is also recommended that the RTDs are checked monthly. This is mostly easily accomplished by immersing the RTD in a beaker of fluid at a known temperature. If the difference between the measured RTD reading and the known temperature is greater than one degree then the RTD should be re-calibrated.
The instrument uses a common calibration file for both the ULTRA and TRACTION applications. This means that if one element of the instrument is re-calibrated in say ULTRA, then the new calibration constants will also be used the next time the TRACTION application is run. The elements which are common to both applications are the pot and lubricant RTDs, the disc and ball motors and the loading system. The calibration dialogues for these elements are identical whether they are accessed from ULTRA or TRACTION.
