MTM (Mini Traction Machine)
/ Accessories
MTM Tommy Bar
A replacement tommy bar that restrains the ball drive shaft when securing the test ball.
MTM Ball Retaining Nut
A replacement retaining nut that secures the traction disc to the vertical driveshaft in the lubricant pot.
MTM Ball Retaining Screw
This is the stainless steel ball retaining screw that attaches the ball securely onto the ball drive shaft.
MTM Torque Driver Adapter
The Torque Driver Adaptor is used with the pre-set torque driver to tighten the specimen retainers to the required torque.
MTM 3D-SLIM Option: Film Thickness Measurement
The 3D spacer layer imaging (3D-SLIM) option uses optical interferometry to measure sub-micron additive films on the specimens as they form during the test.
MTM Grease Scoop
PTFE part that allows grease to be fed through the contact while testing on the MTM.
Microscope Holder for MTM Specimens
The microscope holder brings the MTM specimens into the correct angle for an effortless focus on the contact track / wear scar. The specimen on the holder can be rotated easily by hand.
MTM Backing Plate
This 2mm thick disc holder is an ideal backing plate for a soft disc. Soft disc has to be 4 mm thick and have a 8mm diameter central hole to be adapted on the backing plate.
MTM Barrel Assembly
Consisting of 3 parts (the barrel, the barrel adaptor and the barrel retaining screw) the standard ball configuration can be changed to a roller configuration. The rounded outer edge of the barrel is loaded against the flat rotating disk specimen giving a different contact geometry (ellipse) and contact pressures.
MTM Pin On Disc
In addition to various specimen configurations designed for rolling/sliding traction measurement, we also offer the MTM system with a pin-on-disc wear measuring option.
MTM Pot Filler
Shaped metal block that fits into the MTM reservoir pot to reduce fluid sample volume.
MTM Mini-Pot
Assembly that allows sample size to be reduced to 4ml and foreign bodies to be simply introduced to the test sample.
MTM Reciprocating System
Crank mechanism that allows the disc to oscillate at stroke lengths between 4 and 16 mm.
MTM O-Ring Holder
Holder that allows the ball to be replaced by an o-ring holder to investigate seal and soft contact properties.
Electrical Contact Resistance (ECR) Option
Measures electrical contact resistance between a metal ball and disc during a test.
MTM Oil Cooler
This Haake oil cooler can be controlled by the MTM software to turn on after tests and cool the test cell down to a user defined temperature. This allows faster turnaround between successive tests at high temperature.
Dimensions: 700mm/27in (H) x 600mm/24in (W) x 400mm/12in (D) Weight: 36Kg/79lb
MTM Standard Specimen Pack
The standard specimen pack is made up out of 10 drilled balls (BALLD) and 10 standard highly polished disks (MTMPD).
MTM Barrel Specimen
Flat rotating disk specimen giving a different contact geometry (ellipse) and contact pressures. Pressure 3.2 GPa.
MTM 1/2" Diameter Tungsten Carbide Ball
This is a 1/2" diameter tungsten carbide ball for use with the MTM in 1/2" ball mode. The smaller diameter and its greater hardness allows higher contact pressures to be achieved. Pressure 1.85 GPa.
MTM 3/4" Diameter Tungsten Carbide Ball
This is a 3/4" diameter tungsten carbide ball for use with the MTM in 3/4" ball mode (normal). The hardness of the material allows higher contact pressures to be achieved.
MTM Highly Polished 3/4" Diameter Drilled Steel Ball
Pressure 1.25 GPa.
MTM Flat Tungsten Carbide Lower Specimen Disk
This flat tungsten carbide lower specimen disk can be used as a lower specimen for the MTM in both 1/2" diameter and 3/4" diameter ball modes. The hardness of the material allows a higher range of pressures to be achieved for a given load.
MTM Steel Disc with Rough Finish
This is a MTM steel disc with rough finish (0.15 micron Ra).
MTM Standard Highly Polished MTM Steel Disc
This is our standard highly polished MTM steel disc. Roughness approx. 0.01 micron Ra.
